Ex-voto

Both artistic production and spiritual offering, EX-VOTO was created by the artist as an expression of her gratitude for surviving near fatal burns in a fire when she was ten years old. Cypriano mixes super 8 and video footage to create a personal homage to Nossa Senhora da Aparecida, the National Patron Saint of Brazil to whom she prayed for life. Beginning with the charged image of the fire which both burned and blessed her, this meditative, devotional piece evokes the power of faith and is the fulfillment of a promise.
