Cyrille Phipps
Cyrille Phipps is a media educator and media maker in New York City. She received a B.F.A. in Film Drama from Syracuse University and M.A. in Media Studies from The New School University. With over twenty years of production experience, Cyrille has worked in film, TV, music videos, webisodes and various documentary collaborations that have aired on PBS, TNT and the BBC.
As an educator, Cyrille served as an Adjunct Professor in the Media and Communication Arts department at City College, the Media Arts department at Long Island University and the Media, Production and Technology department at Essex County College. Currently, she teaches production and media studies at John Jay College in the Communication and Theater Arts department and now at Marymount Manhattan College.
As a media professional, she was a Producer/Editor for Volume.com, a division of HBO, where she was responsible for developing a comprehensive vision for video usage throughout the entire site. She was also the Director of Production Services and then Managing Director of Services at Manhattan Neighborhood Network, the largest community access station in the country.
In addition, she was the Senior Editor of Broadband Video at TV Land Digital, where she oversaw all post-production for web-broadcast. As a Producer/Editor, she developed and produced clips for the site as well as edit content from original and acquired programming creating short form documentaries, webisodes, themed stunts and extended scenes for reality based programs such as Myths and Legends, High School Reunion, She's Got The Look and Joan River's How Did You Get So Rich.
Most recently, she has worked as a producer, cameraperson and video editor for channels and new media outlets such as Interactive One, a division of TV One, HITN and Sesame Workshop. She is currently, developing projects addressing issues around gentrification, AIDS in the Black community and the crack epidemic and Hip Hop in the 80’s.
Cyrille has dedicated her personal and professional life to promoting and producing uplifting and positive images of women and people of color.
