Monique Mbeka Phoba
A documentary filmmaker for 19 years, Monique Mbeka Phoba hasnine works to her credit, from changing social issues and policies ("Bulk Journal," "Two Little Tricks and Then Go Away..." "Between the Cup and Election") to more existential questions (" A Dream of Independence,” "A Bewitched Life!").
She recently earned a masters degree in screenwriting in Belgium at IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion). From 2000 to 2007, she also ran the festival of television “Lagunimages” in Benin.
She is currently preparing two projects: a documentary about Maria Fearing, an African American ex-slave, who decided to travel to Congo to provide help against the abuses of Leopold II, and a short film called "Sister Oyo” a story about the colonial Congo during the 1950’s.
Monique Mbeka Phoba is also a poet. In 2009, she published a collection of poems called, "Yemadja.”
