Filmmakers and Producers

Sarah Frank grew up in metro Detroit, Michigan, and attended Michigan State University, where she earned her BA in journalism in 2006. During her time as a Spartan, Sarah spent (arguably) too much time working at the student newspaper, The State News, as a reporter, editor, and photographer. She spent her summers hopping around the country completing reporting internships at the Columbus Dispatch in Ohio, the Chicago Tribune’s Washington bureau and the Austin American-Statesman. It was on that long drive from Texas to Michigan that Sarah realized she wanted to merge her reporting and photography skills and pursue documentary filmmaking. She comes to The New School as a brand-new New Yorker after a year as a Detroit-based freelance writer and creative writing tutor for K–12 students. In 2007, Sarah travelled to Zonkizizwe, South Africa, to film a promotional video for a grassroots nonprofit organization that caters to the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the community’s youth made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.
