In the Spirit of Peace

After September 11th, religion becomes the vehicle for a community looking for commensurability in the midst of an environment that would rather seek quick answers to a larger problem.

Part of the TWN Call to Media Action. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Third World Newsreel made a call to media workshop students and other filmmakers to help document people's reactions and concerns as well as the governmental and media activity that had ensued. The result was a collection of short videos that presented a wide range of issues of concern to communities of color and that asked questions largely overlooked in mainstream media at large.

"Al Santana exists at the perfect intersection of technical mastery, aesthetic ingenuity and political involvement. Each element can be found in a lot of good filmmaking, but all three together are a rarity."
